October is a month of change. The weather starts to cool off and the colors of fall start to set in. Farmers race to get the crops out of the fields before winter appears, and we start to prepare for the colder weather. It is a busy time of year. One that is often overlooked is how lucky we are to enjoy such nice scenery. I challenge you to take a few minutes here and there to stop, and just take in the sights and sounds that are all around us.

As the seasons start to change, we find ourselves doing the same at school. On Wednesday, October 20th, the Hampton FFA state qualifying land judging team ventured to Bertrand for the state contest. The team consisted of Lillian Dose, Brayden Dose, Drake Schafer, and Evan Pankoke. Brayden Dose placed 1st overall and Evan 2nd. Drake placed 11th and Lillian placed 24th. The team together are the 2021 State Land Judging Champions!

Recently, the Hawk Football team played their last game vs. Santee. Although they came up with a nice win, they found themselves just short of playoffs. They officially tied for 16th with Sioux County, but because Sioux County had more division 2 wins, the tie-breaker went to them. Our Hawks finished 4-4. Congrats on a great football season.

The Hawk Volleyball season also came to an end on October 25th. They competed very well against Osceola but ultimately they finished their season with a hard-fought fight in five sets against the bulldogs. Congrats on a great season, also.

With the close of these two seasons for the Hawks, the One-Act season starts to intensify. Our One-Act team has been practicing daily to prepare for their season. Robotics and Quiz Bowl are also working hard in preparation for their upcoming seasons. Although Quiz Bowl has had a few meets already, the heart of their season is still yet to come. Basketball season is also just around the corner. Before we know it, we will be hearing the starting lineups announced over the PA system and the sound of whistles and fans cheering will fill the gym!
